Comprehension of ground conditions for drilling, boring, and/or locating.

Requirements:
• Valid Driver’s License, Class A CDL preferred.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to outdoor elements.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position must have the ability to lift heavy objects weighing at times up to 50 pounds and carry that weight a minimum of 20 feet on a regular, recurring basis. Must have the ability to walk over uneven, steep, or difficult terrain for distances of approximately a quarter mile on a regular, recurring basis and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. Must have the ability to hear long distances, see long distances and differentiate between colors, and have depth perception.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 40 hours per week. These hours do vary with workload. This position frequently requires long hours and weekend work. MUST be willing to travel for storm recovery or emergency utility repair or replacement. Length of stay will depend on volume of work.

Travel
The position primarily works at a customer premise during the workweek which may require weekly overnight travel. Out of area and extended travel may be required and will be dictated by customer demand.

Required Education and Experience
• High school diploma or Equivalent (GED)
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a boring crew foreman
• Must possess a valid CDL-A license with clear driving record

Preferred Education and Experience
• 2+ years experience as a boring crew foreman.
• Technical training on the use of HDD drilling fluid products

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
• Operates HDD rigs and/or locating equipment for installation of underground cable conduit or utilities.
• Ensure proper steering based on the noted job preparations and projections.
• Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade alignment specification.
• Maintain bore profile plots and provide customer with directional drilling data.
• Responsible for the inspection and maintenance of all equipment, including routine maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment, as necessary.
• Reads utility locates and coordinating day lighting of these facilities.
• Provide training and assistance to co-workers learning to be HDD Operators/Locators.
• Assist with all aspects of the job including basic labor responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:
• Work Experience: Experience with HDD operating and/or locating around utilities in rural and urban areas. Experience working around or with different size Vermeer or Ditch Witch units and various brands of locating equipment, preferred.
• Industry Knowledge: General knowledge of utility construction procedures, including print reading. In addition, have knowledge of or be familiar with all procedures and associated tools and equipment necessary to install underground utilities in the most effective, safe, and profitable manner. Comprehension of ground conditions for drilling, boring, and/or locating.

Requirements:
• Valid Driver’s License, Class A CDL preferred.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings.
• Demonstrated field experience working with HDD crews – operating rigs and/or locating.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Willingness to learn.
• Ability to maintain equipment and hand tools.
• Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Abide all company and manufacturer safety procedures and industry safety standards, in addition to attending mandatory safety meetings.
